Sitting at one of the tables in this intima trattoria a few steps from the Pavia Canal is a true gastronomic journey into the regional Italian cuisine.

Starting with the Neapolitan 'pizzella', the entreè offered by the house, which in its delicate frying announces an excellent dinner.

Leading us through the sares of the peninsula is Gloria, the talented cook who on the Canals brought first and foremost the flavours of his homeland, Friuli, together with the best of Italian tradition from different latitudes: Neapolitan, Veneto and, of course, Milanese.

La schnitzel is simply divine, one of the best ever tasted in Milan, a soft and tasty elephant's ear served with delicious baked potatoes. There is no shortage of classics ossobuco with mash and tripe, if you want to stay within the confines of the Milanese tradition.
And then from Campania there are paccheri with San Marzano sauce and buffalo mozzarella, mozzarella in carrozza or escarole stewed with olives, from Veneto sarde in saor and baccalà mantecato. Then there is Sardinian lamb, PDO alpine cheese from Friuli, and a gallery of slow food presidia, the local PDO-labelled products from various latitudes: from pecorino cheese from Abruzzo to San Daniele ham to anchovy fillets from Cetara.
The menu changes often because it follows the seasonality of products: always fresh vegetables, blue fish only if there is one on the market stalls, everything as much as possible at 0 km and preferably organic, but without fanaticism. To end on a high note, desserts: tiramisu, zuppa inglese, chocolate cake, all home-made and with organic eggs.

Excellent value for money: bill at 25 euro per person.
